Exploring Hobbies and Working Out?

Adelise’s fashion sense was feminine. She wore dresses and heels on almost all occasions—her hobbies, which involved hammers, saws, nails, and machines, seemed to surprise people. But dresses and hammers could go together. She enjoyed spending her free time with her hammers and saws, and because all but two of her children had grown up and moved out, she had more time for building things.

As an immortal, she anticipated having more children, eventually, but not yet.

Her husband, who had maybe never touched a hammer, noticed that she was doing a lot of woodworking, and wanted to impress her.

He told her, “I can cut a piece of wood in half just by looking at it.” Could he? Adelise had researched vampires in depth and wasn’t aware of any abilities like that. Before she could question him, he continued, “I know it’s hard to believe, but I saw it with my own two eyes.” Oh.

Adelise cringed.

Asher couldn’t predict when Adelise would find him funny. This was a miss, but he’d try again later.

In the meantime, he discussed topics he felt more confident in like athletics. He told his family about how he worked out and became supernaturally strong.

The older of his two daughters at home (and his wife) found this a little suspicious. To Deli, his “supernatural” strength didn’t seem like it resulted from a strenuous and careful exercise routine—he didn’t work out much—it seemed like it resulted from him actually being supernatural, but whatever. She’d spent some time in the gym with her father that morning and all they’d done was meditate.

But his youngest child was impressed! Elmire followed her father to their pool to witness his athletic prowess.

“What a dive!” she thought, “let me try.”

Her trying to do the same thing didn’t work out, so she was a little disappointed. Luckily? Asher was more than willing to coach her.

Elmire was a quick learner, but her almost magical talent for music didn’t transfer to swimming. It would take more than a day for her to correct her dive.

Asher decided to relax in the bath after his strenuous workout of 1 dive + watching his daughter swim around the pool.

Asher let Liliana, the Fiers’ excellent butler, into the bathroom to clean as he was leaving and couldn’t resist taking a tiny moment to show off his upper half.

Determined not to endanger her boyfriend’s health again, Deli did some research on the perfect weather for ocean swimming.

She found nothing that made sense and decided instead to look for what was generally considered “comfortable.” Apparently swimming in 50° F (15° C) water for hours had been dangerous. Above 70° F (21° C) was ideal. Oops.

Ha! Dresses and hammers can absolutely go together. At first I thought Asher was trying to impress her with non-existent skills that Adelise was way better at and cringed hard. Then I realised it was a joke and cringed harder, but it also made me laugh a little. 😆

Ouch, the infamous pool belly flop. I remember those. Keep practicing, Elmire. It’s good that she’s learning things she’s not amazing at, too. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses and it’s just as important to realise that there’s things you will not be good at. At least not immediately. And that’s okay.

Thanks for the comment! Asher and Adelise have somewhat different senses of humor. Sometimes, they find each other hilarious and other times…
Elmire is going to have to work on fitness.

I honestly thought Adelise was going to have a surprise baby with the setup (her anticipating having a child, but not yet + Asher’s dad joke). And oh my that dad joke lol. I wonder how long Asher stored that gem. It was a GREAT joke…for dads ;p

I love how Elmire realizes that she isn’t as good at swimming in the same way she is at music/the piano. Very humbling, but she takes it with such grace. It makes her ability/magic with music that more special. THAT is HER thing.

Deli is a good girlfriend 😀

I definitely missed an opportunity for a pregnancy announcement, but Elmire was an actual surprise baby and I wasn’t going to let my Sims surprise me again so soon… 😆

Thanks so much for letting me know about the issue with the comments! I think I’ve fixed it. Instead of using wordpress.com, I have it installed on my website and it’s apparently very finicky, turning features on/off without me being aware.

I like the sort of stereotype subversion with Adelise and Asher- she loves handiwork and he knows little about it. Asher cracking dad jokes to his wife XD I like how much typical ‘Dadness’ Asher shows off in this chapter, especially his apparent showing-off of his supernatural strength to his older kids who are like ‘Really?’ I love the setup of Elmire going along with it and being impressed with her dad. When the older kids tire of your ‘dadness’ you can always rely on the youngest to laugh along at your dad jokes : P

Thanks! Stereotypes are a little bit flipped, but I can’t take too much credit for stereotype subversion because Asher has a little bit of a rich boy vibe, which accounts for his lack of knowledge on things like handiwork. But he does do a lot of child-rearing, including potty training. Elmire always has an “impressed” sentiment towards Asher. For better or worse, almost everything he does impresses her since she’s so little. As you noticed, he’s not so impressive to his older kids.
